Karen Murphy O’Brien

Karen co-founded Murphy O’Brien with partner, Brett O’Brien, 22 years ago following a successful career in luxury, hospitality and entertainment public relations. Since 1989, she has continued her work cultivating relationships with top national media decision makers and has managed award-wining campaigns for an impressive collection of companies, many of whom have been loyal clients since the founding of the agency. Karen has carefully assembled a team of the most talented industry professionals and the agency is consistently rated among the top-ten places to work in the city by the Los Angeles Business Journal. In addition, Karen is deeply committed to her work with several charitable and philanthropic organizations, including her position as a board member of Chrysalis, an organization dedicated to helping Los Angeles’ homeless change their lives through jobs.

Brett O’Brien
Managing Director
Brett co-founded Murphy O’Brien with Karen. In addition to managing the business operations of the Company from the beginning, Brett also pioneered the success of Xdrive (www.xdrive.com), the leader in online storage services. Xdrive was acquired by America Online (AOL) in July 2005. Ever the dynamic and forward-thinking entrepreneur, Brett has founded other start-up businesses in the Internet world in addition to his ongoing involvement with Murphy O’Brien.
Brett founded the Los Angeles Chapter of Young Entrepreneurs Organization and is currently a member of the Bel Air Chapter of Young Presidents Organization (YPO). He is a graduate of the Wharton undergraduate program at the University of Pennsylvania, where he focused on finance, entrepreneurship and brand marketing.

Allyson Rener
President
As president of Murphy O’Brien, Allyson Rener oversees a broad range of client services work in the fields of luxury hospitality, real estate, restaurants and consumer food brands.
Allyson prides herself on the intelligence and creativity of her team and on the agency’s innovative approach to media relations. Her primary roles are to oversee the strategic development of each client’s campaign and to provide vision and managerial expertise to ensure the firm’s continued success. She is also responsible for attracting and sustaining the stellar list of high-caliber clients and talented team members that have earned Murphy O’Brien its reputation as an industry leader with top-tier media.
After more than 18 years with the agency, Allyson has personally contributed to every account on the company’s roster, and has been responsible for the long-term relationships with clients such as See’s Candies, Morton’s, The Steakhouse, Auberge Resorts and The Peninsula Hotels. From new hotel launches to product introductions to corporate image campaigns, Allyson provides the agency’s clients with smart strategy and the right creative ideas that consistently garner national media coverage.
Before joining Murphy O’Brien, Allyson managed the public relations for the West Coast Sheraton Hotels, the Resort at Squaw Creek and the Hotel del Coronado.
